Exactly 500 years after the battle that saw the French and Spanish clash and marked European politics, 3D Produzioni presents a series of documentaries in three episodes “The Battle of Pavia and other stories.
Two thousand years of life of a capital”, told by Toni Servillo, with subject and screenplay by Didi Gnocchi and Arianna Marelli and directed by Valeria Parisi.
Pavia, a city accustomed to a “natural modesty”, shows its great history, between art and science, kings and Nobel Prize winners, the University and research centers, and Ticino in the background.
Pavia, which the Romans called Ticinum, was three times the capital – of the Ostrogoths, the Lombards and the Kingdom of Italy – it supported Garibaldi in the Risorgimento and consecrated the myth of the Cairoli brothers; a city that, with Antonio Scarpa, Camillo Golgi, Lazzaro Spallanzani and Alessandro Volta, changed the course of humanity.
Toni Servillo, with the young Pietro De Nova, tells this story and much more: from the excellence of the University to the students, from the ’68 parades to Gianni Morandi in uniform, from Carlo Goldoni to those who, like Marco Lodola and Drupi, never left. It is a journey through centuries and stories, in which Pavia reveals itself in all its beauty and complexity, like the water that crosses it and unites it to the future.
