The major exhibition “Pavia 1525: the arts in the Renaissance and the tapestries of the Battle” exceeds 16 thousand visitors and is extended to February 24

Pavia – The great exhibition “Pavia 1525: the arts in the Renaissance and the tapestries of the battle”, inaugurated on September 19 at the Visconti Castle of Pavia under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, has exceeded 16 thousand visitors in almost 3 months. The exhibition, which was also visited by President Sergio Mattarella on 3 October, has been extended until 24 February and has extended its opening hours even with the morning opening.

Visitors are appreciating the works of great masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Ambrogio Bergognone, Bernardino Zenale, Pietro Perugino, which offer a prestigious and unique testimony of the splendid artistic and cultural flowering that Pavia experienced in the Renaissance. In one of the most iconic periods in the country’s history, the city was in fact an extraordinary artistic, political and cultural crossroads between Northern Europe and Italy.

“We are extremely satisfied with this important milestone that repays us for the great organizational work and artistic research behind the exhibition but obviously we hope that an increasing number of visitors will be able to admire the extraordinary tapestries and other beautiful works of a unique exhibition that has been carefully built work after work for the occasion” commented Laura Aldovini, Director of the Civic Museums of Pavia.

The exhibition at the Visconti Castle is flanked by other important exhibitions organized for the Five Hundredth Anniversary and in particular the documentary exhibition “La miseranda Citade. Pavia besieged 1522-1527”, open until 29 December 2025, which tells, through the direct testimonies of ordinary people, the daily life of the Pavia people. The bibliographic exhibition “The silence of the press”, until 30 December 2025 at the University Library of Pavia, which tells the story of Pavia’s book production before, during and after the conflict, a crucial moment in the city’s history that is also reflected in the activity of the printing presses.

In addition, there is no shortage of free guided tours on the trail of the Battle of Pavia; A two-hour walk through the city center until December 29, 2025 every first and last Saturday of the month and on national holidays.

OPENING HOURS

The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Thursday 10.00 am – 6.00 pm (closed on Tuesdays), Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays: 10.00 am – 7.00 pm. During the Christmas period from 9 – 30 December and 6 January the hours are 10 am – 6 pm, on 26 December 2 pm – 7 pm

The exhibition will be closed on December 23rd, 24th, 25th, 31st and January 1st.
